There is nothing fun about a Grinch during the holidays. In the middle of all the tasks that must be done, no one can’t blame you for losing your cool now and then. That is why I put together this list of 10 sure-fire mood changers that your family will appreciate. Distracting yourself, even for 10 minutes can rescue the entire day. Below you will find 10 suggestions you can use right now to fight the stress that's threatening your holiday fun. There are five ideas for when you have the luxury of a lot of time and five for when your schedule is full and squeezing in a moment of relief feels impossible. If you have 30 minutes or more: 1. Color with your left hand! Shameless endorsement here: You’ve Got This Superwoman, an empowering coloring book journal is just right for this. Pick a white page, grab your favorite coloring tools and go to town using only your left hand. Go a little crazy! If you go outside the lines, so what? Work it! Let the stress flow away as the colors appear! 2. Take an Epsom salt bath. Use two full cups of salt (lavender scented if you can find it, or you can add your own Lavender Essential Oil) Epsom salt is inexpensive and you can find it at just about anywhere...it’s often in with the medical supplies. It’s a great way to de-stress because it literally pulls the stress out of you by detoxifying your tissues. If you’ve been super stressed and anxious, put your head under...let it work it’s magic on your brain. To enhance this whole experience, I recommend candles and calming music and a bath of at least 30 minutes or more. When you drain the bath water, make a clear intention to LET GO of whatever is ready to go. Allow the Universe to bring thoughts and people to your mind and feel their energy go down the drain with the water. Then take a cool refreshing shower and rinse off all the residue, salt and energy.. Breathe deeply and own your new energy. 3. Journal! Write, write and write some more! (If you have You’ve Got This, Superwoman, use it! If not, any notebook will do!) Don’t hold back, put it all out on paper... all the stresses, frustrations, misunderstandings, anxiety...whatever is on your mind, dump it all here. You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel when it’s all over. If it’s something that you don’t need anymore... rip it out and rip it up or maybe even burn it! 4. If you’re a Clubhouse member, you can listen to previous teleseminars which are each about 30 minutes long and filled with tips and tools to help you manage your life without biting someone’s head off. Bonus points for stress control if you do this while taking a walk, exercising or coloring! Double bonus points if you’ve joined the Clubhouse, which is an automatic way to help de-stress. 5. Let yourself go and enjoy a holiday movie... set some time aside and lose yourself in a good movie. I highly recommend the Hallmark channel movies. They show people dealing with challenging situations and stress with grace, ease and compassion. No one gets too angry and if they do, they take responsibility and apologize. It’s a great way to see what our own potential is in managing our emotions and also a fun escape for a couple of hours. If seeing holiday movies reminds you of sad or stressful holidays in the past, pick a comedy - any comedy. Laughter is really the fastest way to shift your mood. Two of my favorite comedies are: Yes, Man! and Finding Nemo, how about you? If you have 30 minutes or less: 1. Color (with your dominant or non-dominant hand). You can work a lot of stress quickly by choosing the black background pages in You’ve Got This, Superwoman. It’s easy to color in less than 30 minutes..non-dominant hand is still recommended for fastest results! 2. Start your day off in a good mood by setting your alarm clock to your favorite dance song... I love “Happy” by Pharell Williams or “We’re All in This Together” Sam Roberts Band....those two get me up and moving and it’s hard to focus on stress when you’re boogieing your way to the bathroom! lol Try it and let me know if you don’t find yourself smiling! If you have a song that makes you happy and gets you moving in the morning, please share it here in the comments. 3. Breathe - you can try the 4-7-8 technique recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil. This is a great one to do if you have trouble falling asleep at night or anytime when things are feeling a bit out of control. It’s easy, quick and no one needs to know that you’re de-stressing. 4. Use the Superwoman pose to increase confidence and decrease stress and anxiety. It only takes 2 minutes for your nervous system to shift and for you to feel better when you do this! It's super easy to do, just stand tall and put your hands on your hips for at least 2 minutes. 5. Be your own cheerleader. Sure it is nice to have someone pat your back and tell you how awesome you are, but sometimes there is no one there to encourage you! Cheering yourself up is easier than you think. Put up sticky notes reminding yourself of just how awesome you are (or cut out pages from You’ve Got This, Superwoman and stick them up around the house). Stop when you see a mirror and really look into your own eyes and tell yourself that you’ve got this, you’re wonderful and you love you! It only takes a second to acknowledge your beautiful self, so go for it the next time you see a mirror! Remember, we are all in this together. The beginning of the week is very heart-centered, and you may find yourself feeling super optimistic at the week’s start! We are reaching for stars and believing we can reach them! We know we deserve the best and we are determined to only have that in our lives.
If you’re aware of the chakra energy centers in the body, each of them resonate with a color, the colors for this week are about staying heart-centered (greens), aligning with your higher-most self (purple) and listening to your intuition and guidance (blues). Fun, right? What’s really awesome is the colors line up with the energy as we move this week. Be Yourself! Trust in the power of moving from the heart! Show us how it’s done! The time is right to shine. As we move into midweek and that unifying purple vibe, we become highly aware of what we no longer want or need in our lives. Fortunately, the time and energy support purifying all or any part(s) of your life you feel needs it. (That thing you just thought of? That’s it). You may find yourself saying goodbye to negative people, places, or experiences and when you do, you find true inner peace and alignment with your highest goals and self. The energy is right, so now’s the time to clean things up! You’ve got this! Be brave and trust that only good comes from purifying. The weekend rolls around beautifully and supports of the rest of the week… Friday, Saturday and Sunday are literally days when dreams can come true. We’re in the blue energy of intuition, so pay attention to signs and signals and you will see that things are happening. Sometimes dreams come true in subtle ways we might not recognize until later. And, that may not be the case here, you may literally experience a dream coming true this weekend! How fun is that!?! Keep practicing those positive intentions and believing in where you are going! If things have been challenging or difficult lately, hang in there, have faith. Maybe take a few breaths (or some time coloring) and regroup and surrender. We might not always fully grasp what’s happening around us, but we can stay steady in trusting that divine justice is playing out behind the scenes. In other words, trust and have faith now, especially if you’ve been prone to worry. (You know the old saying about worry, right? It’s like praying for what you don’t want). Midweek is a lovely time to begin to explore. Explore what?, you might be asking. And, the answer is: anything that catches your interest or attention. You might be noticing that you are becoming more aware of and interested in different options and opportunities than you might have considered before. If so, have fun with it! See where the energy takes you! Indulge yourself and your desire for creativity and change! Go for it, don’t be afraid to engage in the unknown, it’s the path back to your authentic self… stay open to the possibility of trying something you might never have dreamed of now. The weekend’s energy is beautiful… we started off this week with faith, have done a little exploring (and maybe had some excitement) and now it’s all about nurturing yourself and putting yourself first. (I can hear some of you resisting that last part about putting yourself first, but I’ll tell you this, if you don’t, who will? You have to set an example for others about your own self-worth and self-respect!) This weekend is all about stopping the mothering and smothering (it’s very interesting to have this energy is show up now during the American Thanksgiving when many people will be with their families). But what would happen if you did stand up for yourself this weekend and honored who you are? Are you tired? Maybe even exhausted? But still feel you have to do and give for others even when you might not want to? Stop that! And, I know it’s easier than it sounds… but just consider it, even maybe just a little bit, the energy is there for you. How can you find balance without compromising yourself? Remember if you can’t/don’t put yourself first, you are training everyone you care about to do the same. A hard message, I know, but truth. Here we are starting off a new week with a very specific direction, which is to Keep Your Commitments! We all sometimes make promises we don’t keep, but this is the not the week to be doing that!
The energy is ripe this week (especially Monday/Tuesday) to step up and make sure you’re giving your all in doing what you say you’re going to do. There’s a big expectation for us to Walk Our Talk right now. If there’s something that came to mind for you, you know what you must do. When we walk our talk, and keep our commitments it sends a message not only to those we have made commitments to, but also to the universe and ourselves (sometimes we don’t even follow through on what we’ve committed to for ourselves). Luckily, this week is supporting us in supporting ourselves right now. Moving into Wednesday and Thursday, the theme of the week continues, with a focus on reevaluating our priorities. Are you putting your attention in the right places right now? Are you being distracted from what’s important or what’s really going on? Are you turning a blind eye to the steps you need to take to really move forward? Are you compromising your integrity somewhere, somehow? It’s time to take a good look on what’s important right now and stay true to what you know is right and true for you, no matter how tough the outside influences may be. The energy supports your honest NO and YES right now, it’s up to you to find it, though! And, the weekend… wow! The theme this week is truly about stepping up and cleaning up your life. The energy of the weekend strongly supports you in cleaning up any addictions (I know, right? Crazy! You might be saying to yourself, “Addictions? I don’t have any addictions!”) But we all have somewhere/something we’re addicted to (and that might not necessarily be a bad thing). The weekend’s energy invites you to look at what addictions are not serving you and think about what’s necessary to make a shift with those. It could be something as simple as being hung up on an ex whom you just can’t seem to get out of your head. This weekend supports you in shifting that energy and addiction (or anything else that’s addictive and not serving you)! There’s so much help for us here… all we need to do is keep our commitments, reevaluate our priorities and let go of what’s not serving us (our addictions). Wow! Awww, I’m loving the early energy of this week.
Why? Because it’s a time ripe for support from the other side. In other words, your personal angels in heaven (people who have passed) are actively engaged and helping you at the beginning of the week. (and if someone pops into your mind while reading this, that person is the one to talk to about your wishes and dreams as the week begins… they want to help!) The message I’m getting is they want you to know that no matter what is happening or has happened, you will be all right! What a beautiful start to the week, right? Pay attention to anything that might be a sign from heaven right now and know that you have extra help and support as the week starts out! We move into midweek (Wednesday/Thursday) with an emphasis on the planet and the energy that’s moving on it. The earth is going through a transition energetically and you may feel it during this time, especially if you feel connected to nature and the planet. Be kind to yourself during this period and realize that your reactions may be magnified by the pressures of the planet. It’s a good time to ask for and willingly accept help. I’d go so far to say that challenging yourself to ask for and receive help right now could literally change your life in a very significant way. Try it and see what happens! The weekend brings a sense of fortitude and the willingness to stand by your decisions. There’s a sense of support and strength around that may feel very empowering to you! Now’s the time to keep your promises, you’ve got the support of the angels and from the other side, so be sure to take advantage of that! This week is all about you having extra support and using it. When you ask for help this week, be open to receive it… because it’s there for you. Have a great week!
